International Talk Like A Pirate Day 2011 - September 19th.

Arrgh, it be that time o' year once more. The time when we shiver our timbers, avast, and squint one eye. So grab yer parrots and peg legs, and celebrate International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

To get ye in the mood for Monday's festivities, we've composed a new sea shanty. Sing loudly, with rum in hand. The deeper in yer cups when ye reach the last verse, the better. Aye.

Ghostly Seas

Oh, we be ghostly pirates

We sail the seven seas
We float around the boat
'Cause we've nothin' past the knees.
We're grim and ghastly ghoulies
As frightnen as ye please.
Aye, we be ghostly pirates
That sail the seven seas.

Our captain were a scalawag
There first mate were a fool
The helmsman such an idiot,
he swam in his own drool.
But when yer needing work
Ye go where there be gruel
They promised that, drams of rum,
Gold, and glitterin jewels.

Helmsman Cole, he be sure
The earth be good and flat
I said he be an idiot
Ye know my reason: that.
The Captain said he didn't care
He nodded, winked and spat.
“Get us to the hunting grounds,”
He shouts, and that be that.

We began what hoped to be
A mis'rible long trip.
With that idiot at the helm,
It be a rudderless ship.
And then we met an ugly squall
His skills could not outstrip.
It weren't long a'fore the waves
Our battered craft did flip.

Survivors few, we be tossed
In deadly water's trap
Curse the helmsman; if I reached him
He'd hang by his bootstraps.
Instead he drowned, shoutin' in fear,
“We all be off the map!”
“Bless him, poor man,” the first mate said.
I longed his face to slap.

Cruel, the unseen hand o' fate.
It brought us to that place
Where waters of a bitter sea
Seek hatred to embrace.
It seized that blackness in our hearts
Denied us death and grace.
We joined the ranks o' living dead
A restless, hollow race.

Aye, we be ghostly pirates
We sail the seven seas
Seeking out more hating hearts
Our own hate unappeased.
Scalawag, idiot, and fool
Got thar rest and peace
But we be cursed forevermore
To sail the seven seas.
